Tonight, I brought home another chic. This one is here to stay not like the last ones... That is a story for another day for another Psychiatrist. This one is Suzie. It has been a long time since I had a dog. I have two cats that were both taken from the streets. That will explain the attitude that I got when I got home. Here is Suzie's story and about her first night in her new home. A few weeks ago I mentioned to a person that I work with, SA, that I should take in a dog since I had not had one in years. Now I am surprised he even made the whole thing happen after I desecrated the xmas card he sent out to friends with a picure of his Rott licking his chops. Needless to say what the card became was less then mature.
He then got in touch with a friend DR who volunteers at the Clifton Animal Shelter. She told SA that the most perfect little creature she called Suzie came into the shelter. I filled out the paper work but ran into problems with the current cats and their shots being up to date. Although it would be hard to convince most now I actually have a very complex file set up for the cats with all their paper work, I had to take my current strays to the shelter for shots. Since the last time they were given shots was January of 2004. Over the summer last year I put all my important documents in files and in bins. But enough about that. I am a guy and we sometimes lapse.
So lets get back on track. What they told me about Suzie is that she was living with an older woman that passeed and they are not too sure how she was treated. She falls into a submisive position as soon as you go near her which kind of breaks your heart a bit. I went to see her a few times over the last two weeks and was finally allowed to take her home tonight. It seemed as if the whole shelter came out to see her off. DR was there and prepped her for the ride home. Once all the papres were signed we took the little princess out for her ride to her new home. Newark, NJ... What a lucky dog. She will have other places in the country to go to but for now she is an Urban Pooch.
She was very quiet on the ride home. JSP called to see how things were going. RP and her will be a big resource as I attempt to make the little one hapy in her new home. We rapped and then it was time to get Suzie out of the car. As I looked into crate I thought to myself that DR must have put her special little toy in the crate with her. What I found was that her first act with me would be a complete three orafice evacuation. It did answer one question I forgot to ask. Did you already feed her tonight. Thankgod for the crate. I carried it into the house and let her out. She fell to the ground, got up, sniffed, but whenever I spoke or went near her she fell to the ground with her paws up near her chin with her little tongue jetting out like she is licking snowflakes in the air. I dry heaved as I cleaned out the crate.. She took a position laying under my feet as I opened up the laptop to type out today's events. I sat with and pet her but she kept one eye open and always watching. I then spread a blanket out on the couch to coax her up. Would not come up right away but I did her get up. Once up she jumped down and fell into her pose on the floor. However at about 800pm she hopped up when I called her and layed down next to me. I wrapped her up in the blanket and she laid quietly next to me. She had stopped shaking too. We made some head way.. I took her for a walk, and she would not go to the bathroom. And now at 930 she is laying on the couch. I catch her falling a sleep but when I look she opens her eyes.
Side notes: Both Cats are extremely angry at the new arrival. Although the cats have taken to holding secret meetings behind the litter box, I managed to capture two pictures of the cats that I posted here. They have taken up a new hobby of gun collecting. The little one claims that she just likes looking through the scope when we take Suzie for a walk. Its a little creepy watching the red laser point bounce from my forehead to Suzie but I guess its in good fun. I just wish the cat would stop with the chew tobacco. She is making a mess on the window.
