American Idol 2006-Ladies First

Well with the three weeks of perliminary behind us, we start off tonight with the first 12 girls. Now I happen to think there were many better singing girls than guys but they got rid of some of them to make it equal opportunity. As always I will judge the performance and the song choice on a scale of 1-10. I hope there are no Bo Bice's amongst the crowd. We are now ready to roll.

The show opens with dear old Ryan teling us the obvious. I cannot believe this puppet head gets so much. But America loves him since he is so beautiful. Little dig agains the Britnum twins..He gets into a little banter with Simon and he accused Paula of being more critical. Randy says a guy will win. They go into a short about the girls struggle to get there. Most of the trouble for some of them was getting a ride to the venue. Others than that once picked they were taken care of by the idol. The the short takes us to our first of many commercial breaks tonight.

Here we go. First up... Mandisa... Singing Never by Heart...May be a bad choice... Has a good trained voice. Bad choice of song but she is doing a good job..First out of the box tonight..No nerves... Give her an 8.5 for sing, and a 6 for song. She is now the benchmark. Judges are agreed that she did a good job. Simon said see her to the finals due to her personality. 14.5

Next up Kelly Pickler from NC. Her daddy is in Jail and her mom ran off with a bad man. Singing How Far fro McBride. Country song, has the idol look. Has the problems in lowers registers but her high register is as good as Carrie Underwood. Little pitchy at the end. A little yelly...7.5 sing but for her good song choice 7. Simon said exactly what I typed above. 14.5

Next up is Becky O'Donohue from Dobbs Ferry NY. I used to canoe up there. Because the night??? What is up with that. Starting off good. Too many eye movements. A little flat. Her voice is not as strong as the first two. Picked an easy song though so it does not sound that bad. Bit flat again. Sing 6 and song 6 giving her a 12. Randy said you do not have to have the best voice???I thought this was a singing contest. Paul said she loves her. Said her notes were off. Simon said her voice was a 6...look above and see my score for her. That is how good I am at judging this. I am so gay. She may be Becky

Next up Aila Brown...Once again another girl that got in but not that great of a singer. Reflections by Christina Agulara.. She is behind in the song..Started off slow..Not hitting the marks. Better in the middle pitchy at the end but not too bad. Nice control at the end. Sing 7.5 and 7 song. 14.5. Randy said she did it good, Paula agreed as well. Simon said you are a hard worker. Said she has a limit. And she met it with a little bit more emotion than all the other times.

Next up Paris Bennett.... Midnight Train to Georgia...She is an early pick for me. She even looks like Gladys. Wow, Just as good as the original.. Sing 9 and song 10 for her... Winner so far for the night. 19 Nice energy and great singer. All judges agree how great she was. BOy I can pick them.. That may be your next idol depending if anyone can catch her. Her voice does sound like it can be subject to being tired.

Next up is Stevie Scott who sings opera. She is singing To where you are? An opera song. AI first. Josh Grobin. Not sure what to make of it. SOunds muffled Flat I think she never found her range. Took the show down and stopped it. Not sure if it was good or bad. Forgettable. 6 sing and 5 song..Giving her an 11. Randy did not like, Paula said, well I am not sure what Paula said. Simon said she messed it up. She told them she can bring it but they said not tonight...they are right..She just lied to America. Another commercial. The are banging commercials everywhere.

Next up is Brenna from NY. She is a nudge. Singing Steveie Wonder Sunshine of my life. Very pitchy at the start. Not a great rendition. Better at the end but kind of like a wedding singer. 6.5 sing 6 song giving her a 12.5. Judges are not too sold on her. Simon said that it was really bad. Said it was a hotel performance. She is going to be one annoying person.

Heather Cox...Hehehe COx, the said Cox. From NC and she is going to sing When you tell me that you love me from last years AI. Ouch bad start so off key. Middle is ok but not that great. Held one chord near the end but then the next was off.. Sing 7 and song 6..13 not that great. Judges are not hapy with the performance..Simon said it was forgettable. He is right..No one will remember.

Another Commerical..Melissa Mcghee is going to sing When the lights go down by Faith Hill...Oh God I hate country. Not a great start. She too fast for the music. Made up until the end, got a little yelly..Sang good but not a song to make people jump up....8 sing and 7 song giving her about a 15. Simon likes the way she sings but said she is lifeless. She will move on tonight.

Next up is Lisa Tucker.. A super hot girl, 16 and a good voice..Dark horse. I am changing by Jeniffer Holiday.. Old Song..This is tricky. Controlled voice and good lungs. Mayble not the greatest song for her but she is singing it. Pitch and tone are good. Too mature for her. Not as strong in the end. Slow...Sing 9 and song 9..Challenging factor here..Gives her an 18. Randy and Paula liked her. Simon said she made the older girls look ordinary. Once again the judges agree with me. Two more girls to come..We are going to a break.

Next up Kinnick Sky..She has the name and from where I lived in GA. She is a hot sista. Get here by Alita Adams.. She has the looks. Song started too soon for her caught her off guard. Her voice is very rich. I do not like this version but it did let her show case her range. She has a strong voice. 9 on the voice and an 8 on the version. 17 Good song choice but not a great version. Paula said it was a great job. Simon said her performance was cabaret. Said she is being over shadowed. She should get through I hope cause I think she did a good job.

Last up is Kathy Mcphee.. She will sing...Since I fell for you by Babs. Starts out safe and good.. Song picks up a bit. I have to say that I did not think she would be that good but she did a great job. 9 and 8 for sing and song. Giving her a 17. Randy and Paula loved it. Simon said she was the best tonight of four good singers tonight. She could be a dark horse too.
