Police Incident and My Aunt

I went to the mailbox today to retrieve my mail as I do every few days. Today's trip to the box became more than a leisurely trip for mail. It became know as the Union Street incident.

When I got to my mailbox, I like others reach into the box and grab my mail... However today I reached in with the help of the authorities and with a graphite stick.

As I looked into my box I noticed two rather large envelopes. I noticed however, they did not have a return address. Events such as the unibomber and various anthrax attacks after 911, I certainly did not want to tempt fate. Do I try to open them myself using a stick? Will that prevent me from tripping the bomb wire or prevent the anthrax spores from getting into my blood system.. With all this uncertainty, that is when I called the authorities.

They arrived moments later and I debriefed the officer on the situation. We decided to go in and open the letters. The street was cleared of passerbys and the letters were opened. When the envelope was exposed we found many thick clippings of the Daily Record. Thoughts running through my head at the time were varied. Do I have a stalker, has someone kidnapped a member of my family and are they sending me headlines with the date and polaroids showing a loved one tied up. Furthest from my mind was the actual.

The cop opened up the clippings and there were numerous articles about a recent drug raid in Morris County that netted 54 traffickers. It was then becoming clear. Earlier in the week, I had conversations with family members about the drug raid since I coached some of the kids in hockey years before. I asked them to save the papers. My aunt must have sent them to me..But why did she put no return address?? She always has in the past. Did she not care if they were lost?? Did she no longer have respect for the postal service and its protocol?? These are questions that I need to ask her.

Just then my thought process wa then broken by the voice of the officer. "Do you know who would be sending you these clippings about a drug trade with no return address. The letters were sent from Morris County. My thoughts then turned to the kind of police questioning. Did the officer think I am involved? Does he think that they are trying to tip me off, let me know why I have not heard from them. Do I explain to him that I used to coach the kingpin and his staff?? I looked him straight in the eyes and said "Officer, I have no idea"...He looked at me, and got back into his car.

I walked from the mail run shaken, but not broken. I now have many questions for my aunt

You are a damn fool - why would you bother the police over a no return address on an evenlope. You live in Newark, right? Don't they have enought things to do besides worrying about a package for you. Get a grip guy - or better yet get a life!
